Demolition and Rebuild: Crafting a Client’s Deck
Decks are one of our favorite projects, they transform an outdoor space into a functional and beautiful area for our clients to enjoy. Our team recently completed a new deck and overhang for a client which required removal of an old deck first.
We began by demolishing the old deck and disposing of all debris, ensuring a clean and safe work environment. For the new deck, we used pressure-treated wood. Solid 6x6 support posts and 2x8 joists provided a sturdy foundation, with 5/4 deck boards securely fastened to create a stable surface. The deck spanned approximately 12 feet by 32 feet, including a landing and steps, maximizing the usable outdoor area.
Next came the handrail installation, featuring sturdy 4x4 posts and a 2x6 top rail sanded for a smooth finish. Additionally, we added a porch overhang extending from the deck edge. Supported by additional 6x6 posts and framed with 2x6 pine spaced 24 inches apart, it was covered with 1/2-inch decking and matching metal roofing, complementing the house's existing style. A 3/8 rough cut soffit completed the underside.
